Welcome to the IOBC-ATRS website. The International Organisation for Biological Control – Afrotropical Regional Section (IOBC-ATRS) covers the area of south, central, eastern and western Africa and associated islands – all countries except Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt.

Africa has a long and successful history of biological control. Among the highlights are the biological control of the cassava mealybug, the mango mealybug and the cassava green mite, as well as the biological control of invasive alien plants, particularly in South Africa, and waterweeds in particular across the region.

Events

The International Symposium on Biological Control of Weeds (ISBCW) was first organised in 1969, and has been the most important international meeting for weed biocontrol scientists since. The ISBCW takes place every four years, and this is the first time it will take place in South America. 7-12 May 2023
